Maziping Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The No 761 Geological Team of Guangdong named the Maziping Group in Qujiang. Zhang Xianqiou (1988) renamed it as the Maziping Formation. The type locality is at the Maziping section (113º31', 25º07') in the Qujiang County, Guangdong.
Lithology and Thickness
The Maziping Formation is a group of multiple clastic rocks, consisting of brownish red sandstone, and light yellow, yellowish green, grayish green dark grey mudstone. It is 763~988 m in thickness.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation conformably contacts with the underlying Sandong Fm.
Upper contact
Regional extent
It occurs mostly in the Shaoguan area, Guangdong.

The formation contains ostracod Darwinula contracta; conchostracan Orthestheria wangzhuangensis, Halysestheria guangtongensis; and charophyte Maedlerisphaera sp.
